How should Members of Parliament be elected? My preferred method is the Alternative Vote. Next I would be happy with Proportional Representation using the Single Transferable Vote with 3-4 Member size Constituencies. Then First Past the Post.
The worst method is Proportional Representation using the List system for it can easily be and often is distorted by political Parties. Unfortunately the way in which Candidates are selected by the political Parties is nearly always undemocratic and needs to be changed. In July 2015 I spoke at a gathering outside the House of Commons to people interested in electoral reform.
